Ameglia

Ameglia is a medieval village in Liguria, in the province of La Spezia, perched on a hill overlooking the mouth of the River Magra. Its historic centre retains a castle dating back to the Middle Ages, once linked to the Malaspina and later the Doria families, offering views over the valley and coastline. The hamlet of Bocca di Magra, on the riverbank, is popular for its marina, water sports and lively summer atmosphere, while Fiumaretta offers sandy beaches. Ameglia's location makes it a convenient base for exploring Sarzana, Lerici, Portovenere and the Gulf of Poets, as well as the Cinque Terre a little further north. Local cuisine showcases seafood and traditional Ligurian specialities such as focaccia, farinata and seafood dishes prepared according to time-honoured recipes. The area has also been home to well-regarded restaurants, adding to the region's culinary reputation. The Mediterranean climate, mild for much of the year, encourages outdoor pursuits, walking in the surrounding hills and boat trips along the Tyrrhenian coast.
