Albenga

Albenga is a historic town on Liguria's Riviera di Ponente, in the province of Savona. Its medieval centre, built over the remains of the ancient Roman settlement of Album Ingaunum, is notable for its brick towers and well-preserved network of narrow streets around Piazza dei Leoni. The paleochristian baptistery, dating back to the 5th century, is among the oldest religious buildings in Italy and stands alongside the San Michele Arcangelo cathedral and the Palazzo Vecchio del Comune as one of the town's key historical landmarks. Albenga is also known for its agriculture, particularly the local purple asparagus grown in the surrounding coastal plain. The shoreline, made up of sandy and pebbled beaches, stretches towards neighbouring towns such as Alassio and Ceriale, while the small offshore island of Gallinara adds a natural point of interest to the area. The mild Mediterranean climate supports outdoor activities throughout the year, from wandering through the old town to swimming and exploring the region's agricultural heritage.
