Meina

Meina is a small town in Piedmont, situated on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, in the province of Novara. Its lakeside setting offers lovely views towards the Alps and the distant Borromean Islands, making it a pleasant base for exploring a quieter stretch of the lake compared to Stresa or Baveno. The village retains a peaceful character, with several period villas surrounded by gardens that reflect the lake's long-standing tradition as a holiday destination since the 19th century. The lakeside promenade leads to small beaches and jetties, from where boats connect to nearby towns such as Stresa, Baveno and Verbania. The surrounding hills offer good walking opportunities with views over the lake, alongside the chance to sample Piedmontese cuisine and local produce. The lake's moderating effect on the climate supports Mediterranean-style vegetation, with camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons found in several gardens across the area. Meina makes for a calm, low-key base from which to explore Lake Maggiore at a more relaxed, authentic pace.
