Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca

Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca is a municipality in the province of Varese, Lombardy, formed in 2014 through the merger of Maccagno, Pino sulla Sponda del Lago Maggiore and Veddasca. Set on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, just a few kilometres from the Swiss border and the town of Luino, it combines a lakeside setting with a mountainous hinterland thanks to the Veddasca Valley behind it. The village retains an authentic character, with a lakefront promenade, narrow streets and the remains of an old defensive tower. Its border location makes it easy to reach Swiss Ticino, including Locarno and Ascona. Lake Maggiore is well suited to sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing and fishing, while the surrounding hills offer numerous walking and cycling trails, particularly within the protected Veddasca Valley area. The lake's moderating effect gives the area mild summers and comparatively gentle winters for the region. The nearby town of Luino, known for its large weekly market, adds to the local appeal, making Maccagno a quiet base from which to explore this lesser-known stretch of Lake Maggiore.
