Cannobio

Cannobio is a small town in Piedmont, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, just a few kilometres from the Swiss border and Locarno. Its historic centre retains a network of narrow lanes and colourful houses typical of lakeside towns, along with a lakefront promenade lined with cafés and restaurants. The Sanctuary of the Santissima Pietà, a Renaissance-era religious building, is one of the town's architectural landmarks. Nearby, the Orrido di Sant'Anna gorge, carved by the Cannobino stream, is a notable natural feature overlooked by a small oratory. Cannobio is also known for its Sunday market, one of the most popular in the area. The lake's moderating climate and steady winds make it a favoured spot for sailing and windsurfing. The town also serves as a convenient base for exploring both the Italian and Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore, including the neighbouring villages of Cannero Riviera and Ascona.
