Passignano sul Trasimeno

Passignano sul Trasimeno is a small medieval town on the northern shore of Lake Trasimeno, in Umbria's Perugia province. Its historic centre, with narrow, sloping lanes, is overlooked by the Rocca dei Griffoni, a medieval fortress offering open views across the lake. The lakeside promenade and small harbour provide boat connections to the nearby islands, including Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese, the latter a protected nature park. Each summer, the town holds the Palio delle Barche, a traditional boat race that brings the community together. Local cuisine centres on freshwater fish from the lake, such as carp, pike and tench, typically prepared according to regional recipes. The surrounding area is well suited to swimming, sailing and windsurfing, as well as walking and cycling along the paths that trace the shoreline. Passignano also serves as a convenient base for exploring Perugia, Assisi and neighbouring Tuscany, with Cortona just a short distance away.
