Carlazzo

Carlazzo is a small municipality in the province of Como, Lombardy, set in a pre-Alpine area between Lake Como and Lake Lugano, not far from Porlezza. The local territory includes the small Lake Piano (Lago del Piano), a nature reserve valued for the tranquillity of its shores and its rich birdlife, particularly waterfowl, making it a popular spot for walks and nature watching. The surrounding mountainous landscape, on the edge of the Val Cavargna, is well suited to hiking and countryside walks, with trails offering views over the neighbouring hills. The village retains the rural character typical of Lombard settlements in this border area with Switzerland, with a scattering of small hamlets across its territory. Its proximity to Lake Lugano and Porlezza also allows for day trips to busier tourist spots, while still enjoying a quieter, unspoilt setting. Local cuisine reflects Lombard mountain traditions, featuring regional cheeses and cured meats. Carlazzo therefore makes a peaceful base from which to explore this lesser-known corner of Lombardy's lakeland region.
