Gargnano

Gargnano lies on the western shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Brescia, within the area traditionally known as the Lemon Riviera. The town retains traces of its agricultural past through its old limonaie, terraced glasshouses once used for citrus cultivation, made possible by an unusually mild microclimate. The historic centre, with its narrow lanes leading down to a small harbour, features the church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the cloister of San Francesco. The lakeside Palazzo Feltrinelli now forms part of the University of Milan. Nearby Bogliaco, a hamlet of Gargnano with its Villa Bettoni, is also known as the starting point for sailing regattas on the lake. The surrounding hills, planted with olive groves, produce a locally regarded oil. Quieter than some of the more touristy towns along Lake Garda, Gargnano offers a relaxed setting well suited to lakeside walks and boat trips to neighbouring villages such as Limone sul Garda and Salò.
