Desenzano

Desenzano del Garda is a lively town on the southern shore of Lake Garda, in Lombardy's province of Brescia. Its historic centre is arranged around a picturesque old harbour and Piazza Malvezzi, lined with cafés and restaurants. The town features a medieval castle offering views over the lake, as well as a renowned Roman villa noted for its well-preserved mosaics. The Duomo houses a painting attributed to Tiepolo. The lakeside promenade is ideal for strolling, with access to beaches and a marina that gets busy during summer. Desenzano serves as a convenient base for exploring the lake, with boat connections to Sirmione, Salò and Gardone Riviera. The surrounding countryside, particularly the Lugana wine-growing area, is known for its white wines. Local cuisine highlights freshwater fish from the lake, such as agone. The town enjoys a mild microclimate shaped by the lake, and it is well connected via Verona and Brescia airports, as well as a railway station on the Milan-Venice line.
