Jargeau

Jargeau is a small town in the Loiret department, on the banks of the Loire river, around twenty kilometres east of Orléans. The town is linked to the history of Joan of Arc, who fought a battle here in June 1429 during the campaign to liberate the Loire Valley; an equestrian statue in the market square commemorates her. The town centre retains a modest but authentic architectural heritage, with timber-framed houses and its parish church. Jargeau lies within the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, making it a popular stop for cyclists thanks to the Loire à Vélo route running through the area. Local gastronomy is notable for andouille de Jargeau, a traditional cured sausage recognised throughout the region. The surrounding countryside offers typical Loire Valley scenery, combining riverside views, woodland and neighbouring villages such as Sully-sur-Loire with its château. The proximity to Orléans provides easy access to shops, services and transport links, while still offering a peaceful, rural setting well suited to nature-based breaks and walks along the Loire.
