Nesso

Nesso is a small, picturesque village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, in the province of Como, Lombardy. It is best known for the Orrido di Nesso, a natural gorge where the mountain torrent splits into two waterfalls before tumbling into the lake, spanned by an old stone bridge known as the Ponte della Civera. This striking spot is one of the most photographed viewpoints on the lake. The village itself rises steeply up the hillside, with narrow lanes, stone steps and colourful houses typical of the local lakeside architecture. It is home to the Chiesa dei Santi Ambrogio e Materno, the village's parish church. A small harbour shelters a handful of boats and gives access to a rocky stretch of shoreline where swimming is possible in summer. Nesso is served by the ferries linking the towns around the lake, including nearby Como and Bellagio. Local restaurants often serve lake fish such as whitefish or dried shad (missoltino). The surrounding hills offer walking trails with views over the lake and the opposite shore.
