Lago d'Idro

Lake Idro, located in Lombardy in the province of Brescia, on the border with Trentino, is the highest in altitude among the major Lombard lakes and one of the smallest by surface area. Surrounded by the hills of the Val Sabbia and the foothills of the Adamello massif, it offers an unspoilt mountain setting, quieter than nearby Lake Garda or Lake Como. The villages along its shores, such as Idro, Anfo, Vesta and Ponte Caffaro, retain a rural and authentic character. In Anfo stands the Rocca d'Anfo, a former military fortress overlooking the lake, now open to visitors. Nearby, the village of Bagolino is known for its traditional carnival and its production of Bagòss cheese. The lake is well suited to swimming, sailing, windsurfing and fishing, while the surrounding trails offer hiking routes towards the neighbouring peaks. The area enjoys a temperate alpine climate, moderated by the presence of the water, with pleasant summers ideal for outdoor pursuits and colder winters at higher altitudes.
