Impruneta

Impruneta is a Tuscan town located around fifteen kilometres south of Florence, in the heart of the Chianti Fiorentino wine region. It has been renowned since the Middle Ages for its terracotta production, known as 'cotto di Impruneta', historically used for roof tiles and decorative elements on numerous Florentine landmarks, including the Duomo's dome. The historic centre is built around the Basilica of Santa Maria dell'Impruneta, a pilgrimage site housing two chapels attributed to Michelozzo. The town is also known for its Festa dell'Uva, a traditional grape harvest festival held each autumn, during which four town districts compete with allegorical floats and parades. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Chianti area, features rolling hills covered in vineyards and olive groves, making it an ideal spot for local wine and olive oil tastings. Impruneta serves as a pleasant base for exploring the Tuscan countryside while remaining within easy reach of Florence by car or bus. Its Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, supports outdoor activities and vineyard visits throughout the year.
