Rufina

Rufina is a small town in Tuscany, in the province of Florence, set in the Sieve valley around twenty kilometres from the city of Florence itself. It is best known as the heartland of Chianti Rufina, one of the historic sub-zones of the Chianti DOCG appellation, produced on the surrounding hillsides. The Villa Poggio Reale houses the Museum of Vine and Wine, dedicated to this long-standing local winemaking tradition. The landscape is defined by terraced vineyards, wooded hills and the Sieve river running through the valley. Nearby, Nipozzano Castle, owned by the Frescobaldi family, reflects the region's long history of wine production. Rufina makes a quiet base for exploring the Tuscan countryside, visiting wine estates and travelling to Florence or neighbouring villages such as Pontassieve and Dicomano. The climate is typically Mediterranean, tempered by altitude, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, making it well suited to wine tourism and countryside walks for much of the year.
