Marradi

Marradi is a small town in Tuscany, located in the province of Florence, in the heart of the Mugello area, within the Lamone valley, surrounded by the Tuscan Apennines. The village is served by the Faentina railway line, which connects Florence to Faenza through a landscape of wooded hills and steep terrain. Marradi is particularly known for its chestnut production, the marrone di Marradi, which holds a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status and is celebrated each autumn with a local festival dedicated to the product. The mountainous surroundings make it a good base for walking and forest trails, including routes towards nearby hamlets and paths leading into neighbouring Romagna, whose architectural and cultural influence can be felt in the town. The historic centre retains the typical atmosphere of a mid-mountain Tuscan village, with narrow lanes and stone houses. Sitting on the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, Marradi offers a peaceful stop for exploring rural Tuscany away from the more touristy areas, valued for its tranquillity and unspoilt natural scenery.
