Terranuova Bracciolini

Terranuova Bracciolini is a town in Tuscany, in the province of Arezzo, located in the upper Valdarno valley at the foot of the Pratomagno mountains. Founded in the 14th century by the Republic of Florence as a planned 'new town' with a regular grid layout, it retains a central square lined with porticoes, typical of this kind of fortified Tuscan settlement. The town owes part of its renown to the humanist scholar Poggio Bracciolini, who was born there and whose name became attached to the municipality. The surrounding countryside features vineyards, olive groves and gentle hills characteristic of the Valdarno, ideal for walks and exploring the Tuscan landscape. Nearby villages such as Loro Ciuffenna, with its old mills along the Ciuffenna stream, along with Montevarchi and San Giovanni Valdarno, offer further options for day trips on a human scale. The Pratomagno range provides opportunities for hiking, with views over the Arno valley.
