Foiano della Chiana

Foiano della Chiana is a town in southern Tuscany, in the province of Arezzo, set within the Valdichiana, an agricultural plain known for its rolling hills typical of the region. The town is particularly noted for its historic carnival, one of the oldest in Italy, dating back to the 16th century, which brings together elaborate allegorical floats built by the town's rival quarters each year. The historic centre retains medieval features, including an old tower, reflecting the town's past. The Valdichiana is also the birthplace of the Chianina cattle breed, whose beef is a well-known local speciality, often paired with regional wines such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Foiano della Chiana lies close to better-known Tuscan towns such as Cortona and Arezzo, both easily reached, making it a convenient base for exploring the Tuscan countryside, its olive groves and vineyards, as well as its culinary and architectural heritage.
