Terzo d'Aquileia

Terzo d'Aquileia is a small municipality in the province of Udine, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, within the flat Bassa Friulana area, just a few kilometres from the ancient site of Aquileia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its early Christian basilica and Roman remains. The area is crossed by the Ausa canal, which flows into the lagoon, and the landscape is typical of this land-meets-sea zone, well suited to agriculture and winemaking; the locality lies within the Friuli Aquileia DOC wine-producing zone. Its proximity to the Adriatic coast and the seaside resort of Grado, around ten kilometres away, makes it a convenient base for combining beach time with walks along the canals and visits to the region's ancient heritage. The climate, mild and shaped by the nearby sea and lagoon, makes for pleasant stays from spring through autumn. The area remains quieter than nearby larger towns, offering a calm, rural setting appreciated for cycling routes through the villages of the Bassa Friulana and cultural excursions around Aquileia.
