St-Chamarand

Saint-Chamarand is a small rural village in the Lot department, in the Quercy region, just a few kilometres from Gourdon and Gramat. The village lies within the typical landscape of the Quercy causses, characterised by limestone plateaux, wooded valleys and scattered hamlets, offering a peaceful setting well suited to relaxation and walking. The area is well known for its caves and chasms, including the famous Gouffre de Padirac nearby, as well as for the medieval hilltop town of Rocamadour, perched dramatically on its cliff. Nature lovers can enjoy the many footpaths crossing the causses, the nearby Dordogne river, and rural heritage such as dovecotes, dry-stone walls and small chapels dotted across the countryside. Gastronomically, the Quercy region is renowned for its walnuts, foie gras, saffron and Rocamadour goat's cheese, all of which can be found at local markets in the surrounding area. The climate, a mild oceanic type with southern influences, brings warm, dry summers ideal for outdoor pursuits. Saint-Chamarand therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore the natural and cultural riches of the Lot.
