Saignon

Saignon is a hilltop village in the Luberon area of Vaucluse, a few kilometres from Apt. Built on a rocky outcrop, it overlooks the Calavon valley and offers wide views across the Luberon massif and the Vaucluse hills. The village retains a distinctly medieval character, with narrow lanes, stone houses and the remains of an old castle. The Romanesque Notre-Dame-de-Pitié church and several historic fountains reflect its long history. The Rocher de Bellevue, the village's highest point, is a popular spot for walks and panoramic views. Saignon lies within the Luberon Regional Nature Park, making it well suited to hiking, including sections of the GR9 long-distance trail that crosses the area. The surrounding countryside features classic Provençal scenery, with lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards. Nearby Apt, known for its Saturday market and candied fruit production, provides easy access to shops and services. The ochre cliffs of Roussillon lie around twenty kilometres away. The sunny Provençal climate, mild for much of the year, makes the area ideal for outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling and exploring the Luberon's distinctive landscapes.
