Sagone/Tiuccia

Sagone and Tiuccia together form a seaside resort area on the Gulf of Sagone, on Corsica's west coast between Ajaccio and Cargèse. This part of Corse-du-Sud is known for its long, fine sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters, ideal for swimming, diving and watersports. The village of Sagone retains traces of its ancient past, including the Romanesque church of Sant'Appianu, a reminder of the time when the settlement served as a bishopric. A few kilometres south, in Tiuccia, the ruins of a Genoese watchtower still overlook the bay, evidence of the coastal defence network built during Genoese rule. The hinterland, covered in maquis scrubland and forest, offers walking routes towards the hills of the Cinarca region, while inland villages such as Vico provide a contrast to the coastline. The area enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers. Campsites, holiday rentals and small local shops keep the area lively during the tourist season, though it remains quieter than Corsica's larger coastal resorts.
