Sagone

Sagone is a coastal village in Corse-du-Sud, on the western coast of the island, set along the gulf that bears its name. Surrounded by maquis scrubland and mountain foothills, the area boasts a long sandy beach, one of its main draws, popular for swimming and watersports such as sailing and paddleboarding. The village itself is modest in size, with a handful of shops, restaurants and campsites geared towards summer visitors. Sagone lies within easy reach of Ajaccio, the capital of Corse-du-Sud, and is close to Cargèse, a village with notable Greek heritage, as well as the Calanques de Piana, a UNESCO World Heritage site that makes for a worthwhile day trip by car. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers ideal for outdoor pursuits and mild winters. The surrounding countryside also offers opportunities for hiking through Corsican maquis and sampling local produce, including the island's charcuterie and cheeses. Sagone remains a well-regarded choice for a relaxed seaside break, away from the busier resort towns.
