Rochefort-en-Terre

Rochefort-en-Terre is a Breton village in the Morbihan department, officially recognised as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Built around the ruins of a medieval castle, it is known for its granite half-timbered houses, cobbled lanes and geranium-covered façades, a flowering tradition dating back to the early twentieth century. Perched on a rocky spur, the village offers several viewpoints over the surrounding countryside and the Gueuzon valley. In December, it becomes particularly popular for its Christmas illuminations, drawing visitors from further afield. The flamboyant Gothic chapel of Notre-Dame-de-la-Tronchaye is another notable feature of the town centre. Rochefort-en-Terre lies around thirty minutes from Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan, and is close to Redon and Questembert, making it a convenient base for exploring inland Brittany.
