Taüll

Taüll is a village in the Vall de Boí, within the Alta Ribagorça comarca of Catalonia, close to the border with Aragón. It is internationally recognised for its two Romanesque churches, Sant Climent de Taüll and Santa Maria de Taüll, which form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the 'Catalan Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí'. Dating from the 12th century, these buildings are notable for their Lombard-style bell towers and frescoes, some of which are now displayed at the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona. The village itself, built from stone and slate, retains an authentic mountain character with its narrow lanes. Taüll also serves as a gateway to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, one of the most celebrated protected areas in the Catalan Pyrenees and a popular destination for hiking. The nearby Boí Taüll ski resort adds to the area's appeal during the winter months. The mountain climate, with mild summers and snowy winters, shapes local activities, which range from cultural tourism to hillwalking and winter sports.
