Porto

Porto is a small coastal village in southern Corsica, part of the commune of Ota, situated at the mouth of the Gulf of Porto, a site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage location. The village serves as an excellent base for exploring the Calanques de Piana, pink granite rock formations shaped by erosion, which can be visited on foot or by boat trips along the coast towards the Scandola Nature Reserve. The village itself retains a 16th-century Genoese tower overlooking the harbour and a pebble beach fringed by Mediterranean scrubland. Nearby, the Spelunca Gorges with their Genoese bridges, along with the Aïtone laricio pine forest, offer further hiking opportunities across a mountainous, wooded hinterland. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, is ideal for outdoor pursuits such as swimming, sea kayaking, diving and coastal-to-inland walking trails. Porto is particularly noted for its sunsets over the gulf, best enjoyed from the harbour or from the vantage point of the Genoese tower.
