Castagneto Carducci

Castagneto Carducci is a town in the province of Livorno, in Tuscany, along the Maremma coast. The medieval hilltop village owes part of its fame to the poet Giosuè Carducci, who spent his childhood here and whose name was added to the town's in his honour; his birthplace can still be visited today. The cobbled lanes, town walls and the Della Gherardesca castle offer a glimpse of traditional Tuscan architecture, with views over surrounding hills covered in vineyards and olive groves. The municipality stretches down to the Tyrrhenian coast, including the seaside resorts of Marina di Castagneto and Bolgheri, the latter renowned for its famous cypress-lined avenue and vineyards producing celebrated wines such as Sassicaia. The area is also known for its olive oil and local gastronomy. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking, cycling and wine estate visits. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes it ideal for outdoor activities and seaside stays, while the hinterland retains a rural, authentic character typical of coastal Tuscany.
