Follonica

Follonica is a seaside resort in Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, set at the head of the gulf that bears its name, between Piombino and Punta Ala. The town is known for its long sandy beach fringed by pine woods, the Pineta di Follonica, which stretches along the seafront and provides welcome shade during the summer months. Follonica retains traces of its industrial past linked to the iron and steel trade, notably through the Museo del Ferro e della Ghisa and the Parco Centrale, a green space developed on former industrial land. The town serves as a convenient base for reaching the island of Elba, accessible by ferry from the port of Piombino roughly twenty kilometres away. The surrounding area also offers the chance to visit Massa Marittima, a medieval hilltop town in the Tuscan Maremme. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes outdoor activities and beach holidays particularly appealing. Follonica remains a family-friendly destination, combining sea, nature and a distinctive local industrial heritage.
