Punta Ala

Punta Ala is a seaside resort in the Tuscan Maremme, on the Tyrrhenian coast facing the island of Elba. Developed from the 1960s onwards around an extensive protected pine forest, it is now known for its marina, one of the most significant in the region, and its 18-hole golf club, among the oldest in Italy. The fine sandy beaches, fringed by maritime pines, stretch for several kilometres, combining managed areas with beach clubs and wilder stretches close to the nature reserve. On the hill overlooking the bay stands a medieval castle, a reminder of the site's older history before its development as a holiday destination. Its location makes it easy to reach other Maremma towns such as Castiglione della Pescaia and Follonica, as well as the hills of the Tuscan hinterland. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, is well suited to watersports including sailing, diving and boat trips to the Tuscan archipelago. The area remains popular for its unspoilt natural surroundings and residential, relatively quiet atmosphere compared with other resorts along the Italian coast.
