Noves

Noves is a Provençal village in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, lying between Avignon and Cavaillon at the foot of the Alpilles hills and on the edge of the fertile Durance plain. Local tradition links the village to Laure de Noves, believed to have been the muse of the poet Petrarch, giving the town a distinctive literary heritage. The old village core still bears traces of its medieval past, with remnants of ramparts and narrow lanes typical of traditional Provençal architecture, as well as the ruins of a château overlooking the surrounding countryside. The local economy remains rooted in fruit growing and market gardening, characteristic of this part of Provence, close to Châteaurenard, well known for its fruit and vegetable market. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and frequent mistral winds, encourages outdoor pursuits such as walking in the Alpilles or day trips to nearby towns like Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Avignon, around fifteen kilometres away. Noves offers a peaceful, rural setting, valued for its authentic Provençal character and central location for exploring the wider region.
