Nevez

Nevez is a commune in the southern Finistère area of Cornouaille, just a few kilometres from Pont-Aven, the town made famous by the school of painting that flourished there in the late 19th century. Nevez's territory stretches along the Atlantic coast and includes several hamlets and small harbours, among them Port-Manec'h, a sheltered port at the mouth of the Aven and Bélon rivers, and Raguenez, known for its island reachable on foot at low tide. The coastline alternates between coves, sandy beaches and rocky points, making it well suited to coastal walking, particularly along the customs officers' path (GR34). The nearby Bélon estuary, renowned for oyster farming, also shapes the area's identity, with flat oysters being a local speciality. The village retains a rural Breton character, with modest but representative local architecture. The temperate oceanic climate allows outdoor activities for much of the year. Nevez makes a peaceful base for exploring Cornouaille, between sea, estuaries and countryside, close to Concarneau and its walled old town.
