Monticello

Monticello is a hilltop village in Haute-Corse, in the Balagne region, just a few kilometres from Île-Rousse and its coastline. Built on a hillside, it offers open views over the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills, typical of the architecture found in Corsica's inland villages. Narrow lanes, stone houses and the village church reflect a well-preserved local heritage. The commune is surrounded by vineyards under the Vin de Corse Calvi appellation, as well as olive groves, echoing the traditional agricultural character of the Balagne region. Its proximity to Île-Rousse provides easy access to fine sandy beaches and shops, while still offering the peace and authenticity of a characterful village. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes it well suited to outdoor pursuits such as hiking through the Corsican maquis or cycling along the surrounding country roads. Monticello therefore makes for a quiet base from which to explore the Balagne, between sea and mountains.
