Salobreña

Salobreña is a coastal town in the province of Granada, Andalusia, situated on the Costa Tropical. Its historic centre, a classic whitewashed hillside village, is crowned by a medieval castle of Moorish influence, offering views over the Mediterranean Sea and, on clear days, the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Narrow, winding streets lined with white-painted houses lead up towards the summit of the old town. Down by the coast, the town has a mix of pebble and sand beaches, such as Playa de la Guardia and Playa del Peñón, popular for swimming and watersports. The surrounding area is known for growing tropical fruits including mangoes, custard apples and avocados, thanks to the mild, year-round climate. Salobreña lies close to Motril and around 45 minutes from the city of Granada, making it a convenient base for exploring both the coastline and inland Andalusia. The overall atmosphere remains quiet and residential, with small-scale shops and restaurants serving local dishes based on fresh seafood.
