Nisporto

Nisporto is a small coastal hamlet on the north-eastern shore of the island of Elba, in Tuscany's province of Livorno, close to Rio nell'Elba. The area is defined by its sheltered bay, fringed by a pebble-and-sand beach that opens onto calm, clear waters well suited to swimming and snorkelling. The surrounding landscape features wooded hills covered in Mediterranean scrub that roll down almost to the shoreline, giving the spot a natural, largely unspoilt character compared with busier parts of the island. Administratively part of Rio nell'Elba, the district retains links to Elba's former mining heritage, now largely superseded by seaside tourism and walking along the coastal paths connecting nearby coves. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, means visitor numbers peak between May and September. The hamlet is best reached by car from Portoferraio, the island's main port, along a winding road that cuts through the interior. Nisporto offers a quiet, low-key base for those seeking a relaxed seaside stay away from Elba's more developed resorts.
