Mazan

Mazan is a Provençal village in the Vaucluse department, a few kilometres from Carpentras and set at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The commune is historically linked to the de Sade family, whose former château still overlooks the village. The old centre retains a typically Provençal character, with narrow lanes, plane tree-shaded squares and a local market that brings life to the village. The surrounding countryside reflects traditional Mediterranean farming, with olive groves, Côtes du Ventoux vineyards and orchards forming a landscape typical of the Comtat Venaissin. Its proximity to Mont Ventoux makes Mazan a popular base for cycling and walking enthusiasts, as this iconic regional summit draws sports fans throughout the year. The Provençal climate, hot and dry in summer and mild in winter, supports outdoor activities for much of the year. Mazan is also a convenient starting point for exploring other Vaucluse villages such as Venasque and Pernes-les-Fontaines, as well as the lively markets of Carpentras, just a ten-minute drive away.
