Maurs-la-Jolie

Maurs-la-Jolie, more commonly known as Maurs, is a commune in the Cantal department, located in the south-west of the region on the borders of the Lot and Aveyron, within the Rance valley. A former medieval bastide town, it retains a characteristic historic centre featuring the Saint-Césaire abbey church, which combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, alongside old timber-framed houses and a traditional covered market hall typical of south-western French towns. The area is known for strawberry cultivation, a local industry that shaped the region's economy and identity for several decades.
