Lacona

Lacona is a coastal locality on the island of Elba, in Tuscany, forming part of the municipality of Capoliveri. It is best known for its long, fine sandy beach, one of the largest on the island, backed by dunes and a pine forest that provides welcome shade during the summer months. The Gulf of Lacona forms a sheltered bay, popular for family swimming thanks to shallow waters along much of the shoreline. The area is home to several campsites and holiday residences, making it a convenient base for exploring the island in summer. The surrounding Mediterranean vegetation, with its fragrant maquis and wooded hills, contrasts with the turquoise waters of the gulf. Lacona lies just a few kilometres from the hilltop village of Capoliveri, known for its narrow lanes and sea views, as well as from the harbour town of Porto Azzurro. Elba is reached by ferry from Piombino on the Tuscan mainland. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking, snorkelling, and discovering wilder coves accessible on foot or by boat.
