Lumio

Lumio is a hilltop village in the Balagne region of Haute-Corse, overlooking the Gulf of Calvi between the towns of Calvi and Île-Rousse. Set against the slopes of Monte Sant'Angelo, it enjoys sweeping views over the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills covered in olive groves, vineyards and typical Corsican scrubland. The hamlet of Sant'Ambroggio, part of the Lumio commune, has a marina and fine sandy beaches popular for swimming and water sports. The village itself retains an authentic character, with narrow lanes, stone houses and a parish church. Its proximity to Calvi, with its Genoese citadel and harbour, and to Île-Rousse, makes it a convenient base for exploring the wider Balagne area. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking, particularly along paths linking the region's hilltop villages, and to sampling Corsican specialities such as cured meats, cheeses and local wines.
