Loubressac

Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Dordogne valley, Loubressac is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and lies in the Lot department, just a few kilometres from Saint-Céré and Carennac. The village is characterised by its golden limestone houses, roofs of lauze stone or brown tiles, and flower-lined lanes winding up towards the château, a privately owned building not open to visitors but whose outline dominates the skyline. From the village's highest points, the view stretches across the valley, taking in the distant Château de Castelnau-Bretenoux and the Dordogne gorges. Loubressac makes a convenient base for exploring the Lot, with Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac cave system, and the villages of Carennac and Autoire all within a twenty-minute drive. The region is well known for its gastronomy, particularly foie gras, Périgord walnuts and Rocamadour cheese. The mild climate throughout the year encourages walking and cycling along the surrounding footpaths, as well as water-based activities such as canoeing on the nearby Dordogne river.
