Lit-et-Mixe

Lit-et-Mixe is a village in the southern Landes department, in south-western France, just a few kilometres from the Atlantic coast. Its territory stretches between the Landes pine forest and the shoreline, with the seaside resort of Cap de l'Homy providing direct access to the beach and ocean. The village is crossed by the Courant d'Huchet, a protected nature reserve known for its calm, lily-covered waters, which can be explored by rowing boat or canoe from the nearby town of Léon. The mild oceanic climate makes outdoor activities enjoyable throughout the year, particularly walking and cycling along the routes running through the forest. The wilder Cap de l'Homy beach draws surfers thanks to its consistent swell. The village centre offers local shops and a market selling regional Landes specialities such as duck and foie gras. The area retains a strong forestry tradition and an unspoilt rural atmosphere, making it a peaceful base for holidays centred on nature, the sea and the local Landes heritage.
