Léon

Léon is a village in the Landes department, a few kilometres from the Atlantic coast, set between pine forest and wetlands. It is crossed by the Courant d'Huchet, a waterway designated as a nature reserve, which links the Léon lake to the ocean through a remarkable wooded landscape; canoeing or gliding along it on an electric boat is a popular local activity. The Léon lake, the largest natural body of water on the Landes coastline, offers swimming, pedal boating and lakeside walks, with several designated beach areas. The village itself has shops, restaurants and accommodation, including campsites well suited to families, typical of this part of the Landes coast. Léon-Océan beach, a separate seaside spot from the village, is suited to surfing and other water sports, set within an unspoilt landscape of dunes and maritime pines. Nearby regional cycle paths make it easy to reach neighbouring villages by bike. With its mild oceanic climate, gentle summers and relatively soft winters, Léon is a popular choice for nature-based breaks combining relaxation, freshwater activities and countryside walks.
