Le Porge

Le Porge is a coastal commune in the Gironde department, lying between the Arcachon Bay and the Landes de Gascogne forest, roughly 40 kilometres from Bordeaux. The village itself, built in the traditional timber-and-stone style typical of the Landes region, sits a few kilometres inland, separated from the coast by pine woodland that stretches out to Le Porge-Océan beach. This long sandy beach is patrolled in season and popular for swimming, surfing and bodyboarding thanks to consistently good Atlantic swells. The surrounding dunes and pine forest provide a well-preserved natural setting, ideal for walking or cycling, with dedicated cycle paths connecting Le Porge to Lacanau and the Arcachon Bay. The mild oceanic climate allows for outdoor activities for much of the year. Compared with some of the busier resorts around the bay, Le Porge remains relatively quiet and less built-up, making it well suited to nature-based tourism combining beach, forest and cycling routes, while still being within easy reach of better-known attractions such as the Dune du Pilat.
