Vinarós

Vinarós is a coastal town in the province of Castellón, within the Valencian Community on Spain's Mediterranean coast. It is particularly well known for its active fishing port and for its prawns, the celebrated "gambas de Vinarós," regarded as a prized local delicacy and served in numerous seafood restaurants throughout the town. Vinarós has several fine sandy beaches, including Playa del Fortí and Playa Norte, popular for swimming and seaside walks. The historic centre retains some traditional architectural features, including the Archpriest Church of the Assumption, alongside a pleasant seafront promenade. The town enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and relatively gentle winters, making it a suitable destination for beach holidays for much of the year. Its location close to Peñíscola, and within reasonable reach of both Barcelona and Valencia, also makes it a convenient base for exploring the northern coast of Castellón province. Fishing, agriculture and tourism remain the main pillars of the local economy, giving the town an authentic, working character alongside its appeal as a holiday destination.
