Magliano in Toscana

Magliano in Toscana is a hilltop medieval village in the Maremma area, within the province of Grosseto in Tuscany. Encircled by well-preserved 13th and 14th-century walls, the village retains a distinctly medieval layout with narrow lanes, the Palazzo dei Priori, and several religious buildings, including the Romanesque church of San Martino and the church of San Giovanni Battista. At the entrance to the village stands the Olivo della Strega, a centuries-old olive tree tied to local folklore. The surrounding countryside, characterised by rolling hills covered with olive groves and vineyards, lies within the production area of Morellino di Scansano, a well-regarded local red wine. Magliano is around fifteen kilometres from the coast, making it easy to reach nearby towns such as Talamone, Orbetello, and the Argentario promontory. The still largely rural area is home to numerous agriturismi and offers plenty of scope for walking, exploring the Etruscan and medieval heritage of the Maremma, and sampling local produce such as olive oil and wine. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers, making it an appealing base for combining cultural visits with countryside or seaside stays.
