Manciano

Manciano is a town in the Maremma area, in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany, set on a hilltop overlooking the Albegna valley. The historic centre retains traces of its medieval past, including the remains of a fortress and narrow lanes typical of a Tuscan hill town. The area is best known as a gateway to the famous Saturnia hot springs, including the natural sulphurous waterfalls of Cascate del Mulino, as well as the developed spa facilities of Terme di Saturnia. The municipality also includes the hamlet of Montemerano, a fortified village noted for its medieval charm and local cuisine. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Maremma, combines rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards, including those producing Morellino di Scansano, a well-regarded local red wine. The region is well suited to hiking, cycling and exploring Etruscan archaeological sites scattered nearby, such as rock-cut necropolises. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes spring and autumn particularly pleasant times to visit. Manciano serves as a convenient base for exploring southern Tuscany, combining nature, thermal bathing and authentic rural heritage.
