Ansedonia

Ansedonia is a small coastal locality in Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, part of the municipality of Orbetello, on the southern stretch of the Argentario coastline. Set on a rocky headland overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, it is best known for the ruins of the ancient Roman town of Cosa, where visitors can still see the acropolis, forum and sections of the old walls. Nearby lies the Tagliata Etrusca, a channel cut into the rock dating from Etruscan-Roman times, along with the natural rock formation known as the Spacco della Regina. The coastline alternates between fine sandy beaches and rocky coves, popular for swimming and diving in clear waters. The wooded Feniglia sand spit, a nature reserve linking Ansedonia to Orbetello, offers trails for walking and cycling. The area remains quiet and residential, valued for its villas and tranquil atmosphere, just a short drive from the livelier towns of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano. The mild Mediterranean climate, pleasant for much of the year, supports outdoor pursuits such as sailing, fishing and boat trips to nearby islands, including Giglio.
