Langonnet

Langonnet is a village in the centre of the Morbihan department, in inland Brittany, set within a rural landscape of hedgerows, wooded valleys and streams feeding into the nearby Nantes–Brest Canal. The village is known for its former Cistercian abbey, founded in the Middle Ages, whose buildings now house a spiritual and retreat centre run by the Spiritan congregation. With its tree-lined grounds and peaceful setting, this site is the main heritage attraction in the area. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and cycling, particularly along the canal towpath, as well as exploring the small villages typical of this part of inland Brittany known as the Argoat. The climate is temperate oceanic, with mild summers and fairly damp winters, allowing for outdoor activities for much of the year. Langonnet appeals mainly to those seeking nature and quiet, away from Brittany's busier coastal resorts, while remaining within easy reach of Carhaix-Plouguer and Gourin for shops and everyday amenities.
