La Plaine-sur-Mer

La Plaine-sur-Mer is a coastal town on the Atlantic seaboard of the Loire-Atlantique department, along the Côte de Jade, just a few kilometres from Pornic. It occupies a distinctive position at the mouth of the Loire estuary, marked by the Pointe Saint-Gildas and its semaphore station, a popular vantage point for watching ships entering or leaving the port of Saint-Nazaire. The coastal path, which follows the route of the GR34 trail, runs alongside coves, sandy beaches and small cliffs for several kilometres, offering an unspoilt natural setting. Beaches such as Port Giraud are used for swimming, shore fishing and water sports when conditions allow. The town retains a rural, maritime character, with local oyster and mussel farming activity and a market selling seafood. The mild oceanic climate and sunny summers make it a family-friendly holiday destination, valued for its relaxed atmosphere, well away from the bustle of larger seaside resorts.
