Lido di Ostia

Lido di Ostia, often simply called Ostia, is Rome's seaside resort, located roughly thirty minutes from the city centre and directly connected by regional train. This stretch of the Roman coastline runs along several kilometres of beach, alternating between paid beach clubs with cabins and sun loungers, and free public sections open to all. The seafront promenade, lined with shops, seafood restaurants and gelaterias, forms the main hub of activity during the summer season. History enthusiasts can visit the nearby ruins of Ostia Antica, the remarkably well-preserved ancient port of Imperial Rome. The area also has a marina, handy for boat trips or hire. The atmosphere is lively and popular in summer, with strong footfall from Romans at weekends. Ostia makes a practical base for combining a seaside break with cultural visits to Rome, thanks to its direct rail link. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers, ideal for beach activities from June to September.
