Nettuno

Nettuno is a coastal town in the Lazio region, in the province of Rome, on the Tyrrhenian Sea near Anzio. Its historic centre, known as Nettuno Vecchia, retains a medieval layout of narrow streets and small squares, dominated by the Forte Sangallo, a 15th-century fortress that stands as one of the town's key architectural landmarks. Nettuno has an active fishing harbour and sandy beaches stretching along the coastline, popular with both locals and visitors from Rome, around 60 kilometres away. Nearby lies the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, one of the largest American military cemeteries in Europe, linked to the Second World War operations in the Anzio-Nettuno area. The town is also home to one of Italy's oldest golf clubs, established in the 1920s. The local economy remains rooted in fishing, agriculture and seasonal seaside tourism. With a Mediterranean climate marked by hot, dry summers, Nettuno is well suited to outdoor activities and coastal stays for much of the year, offering a blend of historical interest and traditional seaside life.
