Ischia Forio

Forio is one of the main towns on the island of Ischia, in the Gulf of Naples, known for its authentic character and varied coastline. The white Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso, perched on a rocky headland overlooking the sea, is one of the town's most recognisable landmarks, along with the Torrione, a 15th-century watchtower in the heart of the historic centre. La Mortella Gardens, created by Susana Walton, rank among Italy's most notable botanical gardens and attract visitors interested in Mediterranean and exotic flora. Forio is also known for its thermal waters, notably at the Poseidon Gardens spa near Citara beach, as well as for Chiaia beach, lined with cafés and shops. The surrounding volcanic hillsides produce local wines, including Biancolella. The town centre, with its narrow lanes and whitewashed houses typical of Mediterranean architecture, offers numerous seafood restaurants. The mild Mediterranean climate supports both beach and thermal tourism from March through to October, making Forio a popular year-round destination for relaxation.
